General Manager Ali Abu Baker grew up with the dream of one day opening a restaurant where his passion for good food and good friends could come together. Ali grew up in Yafa, an area the coastal countryside in Sothern Yemen. As a young man, however, he decided to leave for the land where any dream can become a reality, the United States. In 1973, Ali moved to Costa Mesa, California, where he labored building engines for large ships to earn a living. He bought and revamped a grocery store in New York after all of the years of hard work, just another step closer to realizing his dream. San Francisco was calling, and Ali came to work at a family-owned business. The Yemeni Restaurant opened in early 2010 and has already become a favorite amongst the locals. Ali hopes to spread the love and world of authentic Yemeni cuisine to all.
